100 Beautiful Experiences

We’re lucky to have two very nifty bridges that help us get from one part of our neighbourhood to another, while also being nimble enough to allow yachts and boats to pass by. Whether you catch the full effect of seeing them open from a distance, or find yourself in front of the line waiting to cross the walkway, there’s always an element of awe when noticing the incredible engineering.

11. Swing Bridge

If you haven’t yet witnessed the opening and closing of the new swing bridge that connects the Pierhead Precinct with the Clock Tower Precinct, then we recommend you add it to your next visit. It’s a marvel of mechanics that boggles the mind to comprehend how 42 metres of walkway can swing over the water so seamlessly, and then carry so much weight as throngs of people walk across it.

12. Bascule Bridge

Since 1996, the Bascule Bridge has offered a pedestrianised way to reach the city side of the V&A Waterfront from its main areas. When not in a rush to get across, it’s worth waiting for a yacht to exit the marina so that you can see how this blue drawbridge opens itself up like two muscular arms lifting in unison.
