LOVING LIFE AT THE MARKET
Every Saturday and Sunday, until 2pm, the Oranjezicht City Farm Market is abuzz with locals gathering with friends and family to enjoy a meal, live music and a spot of shopping outdoors, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean from this unique Granger Bay setting.
12. Buying flowers
One should never leave the market empty-handed. The colourful bunches of blooms, fresh from Adene’s Flower Farm in Wolseley, are so exquisite that you might just struggle deciding which floral delights to take home. One of each?
13. Shopping for baskets
Design Afrika’s stall is laden with some of the finest woven products from around the continent. Find everything from baby carriers and dog baskets to plant holders and beach bags, all crafted by hand from sustainable fibres by women in far-flung communities.
14. Brunch with your pooch
This dog-friendly market means your best friend can sit with you once you’ve selected a meal from the many food kiosks. Waffles, shakshuka, vegan treats or smoothie bowls are all on offer, but your pooch may beg for a hearty steak roll. Dogs should be on leashes and are not allowed in the food tents.
15. Procuring fresh produce
Stock up on your weekly immune-boosting fruit and veg, as well as artisanal cheeses, breads, olives and cured meats. The farm stall gets its supplies from small-scale farmers, so all produce is freshly harvested and seasonal.
15. Browsing loud shirts and Veldskoen
ThePROPERstore and Veldskoen are positioned opposite one another, so you can match your new colourful shirt by designer Paul van der Spuy with the right coloured Veldskoen sole and laces. Proudly South African, these brands will have you rocking the market in style.
